I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Dear Valley Ward Members,
Following a report involving a victim of harassment and stalking within the Mount Ward area of E4, under the (VAWG) Violence Against Women and Girls priority, the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team officer, together with the VAWG SPOC Sergeant, conducted a scheduled "Walk, Talk and Do" engagement with the victim.
During the walk-through of the local area, officers discussed various aspects of VAWG, personal safety, and the support available to victims of harassment and stalking. The victim was given the opportunity to speak openly about her experiences, concerns, and the impact the incidents had on her daily life.
The engagement focused on helping the victim overcome her fear of crime, increasing reassurance, and building confidence within the local community. Officers provided crime prevention advice and explored measures that could further improve her sense of safety and wellbeing.
In addition, the victim was registered on Met Engage to ensure she receives relevant updates, community information, and ongoing engagement from the Metropolitan Police.
The visit was positively received and contributed towards building the victim's confidence, strengthening trust in local policing, and improving her feelings of safety within the Mount area.
Key Outcomes
• Conducted a joint Walk, Talk and Do engagement with the victim. • Discussed VAWG-related concerns and available support services. • Listened to the victim's experiences and addressed local safety concerns. • Provided reassurance and crime prevention advice. • Registered the victim on Met Engage to improve communication and engagement. • Supported the victim in rebuilding confidence and feeling safer within the community.
Result: The engagement was positive and well received by the victim. It helped to reduce her fear of crime, improve confidence in local policing, and strengthen ongoing communication and support through both local officers and the Met Engage platform.
